How to migrate
Rebuild the character (no export exists)
- Open /characters/new — LoreChat's character editor
- Copy in what you remember: the character's description, their opening greeting, and a short example exchange or two that shows their voice
- Add a one- or two-sentence scenario — this is what the story director reads to plan beats, so a concrete situation works better than a mood
- Save the card. It's private to you until you choose to publish it

- Open /characters/import and drag the file in, or use the file picker
- Check the parsed fields — description, greeting, lorebook entries — before saving

FAQ
Can I export my Character.AI characters and import them into LoreChat?
LoreChat imports PNG/JSON cards; if you don't have one for the character, rebuild it in the editor at /characters/new, which takes a few minutes — the description, greeting and a short example exchange are enough. If you already have a PNG or JSON card for the character from another source, /characters/import reads that directly.
Do I need an API key to use LoreChat?
No. LoreChat runs in the browser and the models are provided by the service — create a free account and start chatting.
Is LoreChat free?
Yes, during the beta. Every account gets a free daily credit budget that resets at midnight UTC; Story Spark top-ups are available if you want more on a given day.
Is there a content filter? Will my NSFW cards work?
There is a published content policy, and no: NSFW cards are rejected at import. LoreChat is fiction only and fade-to-black — romance, attraction, kissing, implied intimacy, mature themes and fictional violence are allowed; explicit sexual description is blocked in your messages, in replies, in cards, in shares and in illustrations. A card that contains explicit content, is labelled NSFW by its source, or instructs the model to write explicit scenes is refused at import; when the explicit content sits in one field, the refusal names that field.
